On November 30th, Loudoun County Magazine is hosting a talk with Steve Loya, a Northern Virginia-based artist and educator. Loya serves on the board of the Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center and is the creator of Splotch Monster Island.
From Loya, “I grew up watching movies and TV shows with lots of cool, creative monsters in them. Star Wars, Godzilla, Ultraman, and Spectre Man. Additionally, [I] also had a love and appreciation for insects and animals, both current and prehistoric.”
Loya enjoys drawing and painting realistic interpretations of wildlife, however, Splotch Monsters are where he has the most fun. Beginning as an experiment and a daily creative exercise made from watercolors, acrylics, coffee, India ink, tea and more, the splotch critters branched out in many different
directions, from cute and cartoony to more serious, abstract compositions.
Loya will be presenting about his work as an artist and the creator of Splotch Monster Island on November 30th at the Brambleton Library in Meeting Room B at 6 p.m. Please email info@loudouncountymagazine.com to register or attend remotely at https://us05web.zoom.us/j/89991819244?pwd=bXhnTmNsQVl2Z0hEYTRCdjhValZtUT09
