Waterford, a small, quaint town first settled by Quakers in 1733, is in many ways, a portal back in time to the 18th and 19th centuries in America. The town features a plethora of historical sites, including mills and schools, with a lengthy and complicated history. Notably, due to its high Quaker population in the 1800s, Waterford remained neutral during the Civil War — despite existing in a Confederate state. Today, the town is widely known for its annual Waterford Fair, hosted each year during the fall since 1944.
The homey Waterford Market offers natural, locally grown, and harvested products, including lamb, and many carefully crafted woolen products like dryer balls, yarn, and even knitting kits.

Waterford is home to several historic schoolhouses, most notably the Old School, which was partially burned down in 1909 before it was rebuilt to its current state, and Second Street School, originally built in 1867 for African American children in Waterford. Today, the Old School hosts many public events, like concerts, town meetings, political debates, and wedding receptions. Through the Second Street School Living History Program, fourth-grade students from the surrounding area can visit to experience a school day reminiscent of the 1880s.
